Elephants must
drink water daily. They often congregate in herds and frolic in the
water to cool them selves, they enjoy swimming and playing with water.
The best
viewing times are during the hottest parts of the day. This is contrary
to the other bush animals who prefer to drink during the early hours and
late hours of the day. This leads to spectacular day long viewing of
wildlife at Mashlesela hide water hole. at night the shy animals such as
the suni, red duiker and black rhinos are seen to drink. Lions are often
seen at the water hole not only to drink but to wait for unsuspecting
animal.
There are a
plethora of bird life throughout the day, such as the fish eagle which catch the barbel fish in the water hole and egrets who feed on the
frogs.
At nigh one
can hear the cacophony of cicada, frogs, crickets and bush baby's under
a flawless southern night sky.
